Technologies Available for License

MTDC is currently marketing a family of technologies grounded in advanced ceramics and solid-state devices. These technologies are available for commercialization through licensing and contract manufacturing arrangements. Components for all of the technologies are available through MTDC and its network of industrial partners. New technologies are accepted for marketing by MTDC based on their fit with target markets in ceramics, energy, nanotechnology, gas generation, refrigeration, superconductors, insulators and sensors

 

The following is a summary list of technologies currently available through MTDC. Technical details regarding each technology are available after execution of standard non-disclosure agreements. The inventor/owners are also available and encouraged to participate thoroughly with technology transfer and commercial product launch.

 

錕?/em>Moderate-Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cell

    1. Invention: A rugged, inexpensive, moderate temperature fuel cell has been developed, based on an extruded honeycomb structure, that operates below 650oC and promises a stack錕絚ost on the order of $37/kw (the Solid State Energy Alliance has a target stack cost for solid oxide fuel cells of $400/kw - to be acheived in 2010).
    2. Status: Small fuel cells have been run on natural gas for more than 100 hours.錕?The fuel cell has been successfuly demonstrated with the support of a major public utility and a detailed manufacturing study has been performed to support cost claims.
    3. Intellectual property: Technology is covered by a US patent and an extraordinary amount of know-how and show-how has been developed to support the manufacturing effort.

錕?/span>Natural Gas Solid State Proportioning Valve (SSPV)

  1.  

    1. Invention: A valve for natural gas (or any fluid) which provides a fine, continuous control of flow over a broad range of rates.錕?SSPV systems have been demonstrated to improve efficiency in furnaces utilizing radiant tubes by 10 錕?20% with a 30 錕?40% reduction in NOx emissions.
    2. Status: Several systems (valve + sensor + microprocessor) built, sold and put into service by inventing company

錕?/em>Ultra Low-Loss Capacitive Energy Storage at 77 Kelvin

  1.  

    1. Invention: Ultra Low-Loss energy storage has been demonstrated in advanced ceramic capacitors operated at 77 Kelvin.錕?Energy densities on the order of 14 joules per cc have been demonstrated.錕?Markets exist where reliability, high voltage, rapid switching and low weight to volume requirements dominate.錕?This device is a credible threat to the micro-SMES.
    2. Status: Capacitors have been manufactured using conventional multi-layer processes and tested extensively through sponsorship by the Department of defense and a major public utility.
    3. Intellectual Property: Technology covered by two US patents (one issued and one pending) owned by the client inventors.

錕?/span>Solid State Oxygen Gas Generator

  1.  

    1. Invention: Low-cost, advanced ceramic device separates oxygen from air without the use of moving parts.錕?The extremely small solid state device is quiet, and robust, suitable for the home health care market.
    2. Status: Oxygen generation has been demonstrated in industrially manufactured systems at a cost below mechanical separation technologies.
    3. Intellectual Property: Technology supported by five US patents.

錕?/span>Solid State Nitrogen Gas Purifier

  1.  

    1. Invention: Low-cost, advanced ceramic device purifies nitrogen in air up to at least 99.999% without the use of moving parts.錕?The extremely small solid state device is quiet, and robust, suitable for the semiconductor and other industrial gas markets.
    2. Status: Nitrogen purification has been demonstrated in industrially manufactured systems at a cost below cryogenic separation technologies.

錕?/span>Solid State Refrigeration at Room Temperature

    1. Invention: Electrocaloric ceramics have been developed that, through charge and discharge of a voltage, heat or cool, without the use of moving parts, across a broad temperature range.錕斤拷錕?
    2. Status: While capacitors need enhancement with respect to larger breakdown voltages, demonstrations of this solid-state refrigeration technology are under consideration.
    3. Intellectual property: The inventors have applied for US patent protection.

錕?/em>Dielectric Insulations for Superconductive Wires and Cables

  1.  

    1. Invention: Superconductors for electric power transmission and electro-magnets have unique problems with respect to thermal stabilization near their critical operating conditions.錕?Insulations have been developed by the owner/inventors for all commercial and prospective superconductor materials including the ceramics YBCO and BSCCO and metals NbTi and Nb3Sn. These materials are also available as stand-offs and other components.
    2. Status: Commercial lengths of superconductor wire have been coated for applications within the Department of Defense.錕?
    3. Intellectual property: The technology ids protected by one US patent and considerable know-how and show-how by the inventor/owners.
